Jonathan Woolf is designing two private houses in Nairobi, Kenya.

On November 16 2007at the Stockholm Town Hall, it was announced that Jonathan Woolf reached the final ten in the largest ever international design competition (1,170 entrants from all over the world), to build the new national library of Sweden in Stockholm.

Projects currently on site

Surburban Twins. A double house with 6,500ft2 of accommodation in London NW11.Completion 09.09. for private clients.

A house-hotel in London WC1. the five storey building is being refurbished with a new ground floor facade. Completion 08. 08.

 

Professorship

From September- June 2008 Jonathan Woolf is Guest Professor at the L'Accademia di Archittetura di Mendrisio.

Publication 2007

'a book about architecture' will be published in the autumn of 2008, based on the teachings 2003-2007 at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and the Built Environment at the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland.

 

 

 

Reviews and Awards

Brick Leaf (Double) House in London received an RIBA Award as well as becoming the first private house to reach the mid-list (final 12) for the 2004 Stirling Prize.

"A New English House" is reviewed in the 04.07 issue of Architecture Ireland.The book reached the last four of the British Book Design Awards 2006.

In the Building Design Architect of the Year Awards 2004 Woolf architects were presented with the Architect of the Year Award for Double House. The office also received a runners up award in this year's Architecture Journal Awards, the Brick Association Awards and the AJ First Building Award.

Practice

Jonathan Woolf began his practice in 1990 with the widely published Ijaz apartment and at the same time winning two international design competitions, one for urban redevelopment in Dublin and the other for office furniture systems for the next century. These set out the basis for a substantial body of over 24 completed projects to date including houses, artist and photographers studios, offices, apartments and hotels.

The practice has full Professional Indemnity insurance and is a member of both the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Architects Registration Board.

 

Collaborative Work

The architects have a working relationship with Capita Percy Thomas with experience in several public buildings including university libraries, hospitals and music venues.

 

France

The practice have since 1995 a working partnership with Paris based practice Barthelemy Grino Architects with a substantial portfolio of projects from large scale housing to public libraries , sports buildings as well as retail developments for fashion house Louis Vuitton.

Educated at Kingston School of Architecture, Surrey before apprenticing at practices in Rome and in London where, for Munkenbeck & Marshall, he was project architect for the house of art collector Charles Saatchi. He established his own practice in 1990 and has taught at schools throughout the UK and Europe since 1995, most notably at the University of Bath and the Architectural Association, London and, from 2003-2007, as full Professor at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture of the Robert Gordon University, Scotland. From September 2007 he will be guest professor at L''accademia di Archittetura in Mendrisio, Switzerland.
